REFERENCE SECTION: I present to the growing collection of at least one hundred and fifty unique scents!
LENDING SECTION: At least ninety of these scents are available for lending. Currently there are three copies of most, some popular scents have five copies.
The collection is eclectic and proudly incomplete, including aromatic molecules alongside fragrances and scents from everyday life. The SLL is an immersive ongoing scent art project driven by community feedback and suggestions.

The Scent Lending Library scents are captured in ½ oz amber glass bottles with screw lid tops. Most contain cotton wool or blotter paper. All scent materials have been diluted to safe use levels for smelling, and relative amounts (in most cases one to seven sprays of perfume) have been added for your balanced smelling pleasure.
There is information about each scent on A -Z reference cards and on backs of lending slips.
HOW TO SMELL THE ART >>>can you smell them all?
To participate in smelling (you may smell from the reference or lending section) Pick up a bottle, open the lid, bring your nose gently towards the bottle opening. Sniff with caution. Some scents are bigger than others!
PROJECT HISTORY: SCENT LENDING LIBRARY is an immersive community focussed smelling art experience created by DONNA LIPOWITZ in 2025.
New York City: The Scent Lending Library first exhibited April - September 2025 at Olfactory Art Keller - the world's first and only ever art gallery only for olfactory art.
It closed in September 2025, was located at 25A Henry Street in New York City.
SEATTLE: Since November 2025 - March 2025 the Scent Lending Library has been in the window space at Fogue™ Studios & Gallery located in the historic Georgetown neighborhood. Fogue gives a voice and venue for professional artists over 50.
Due to popular demand, you will now find the Scent Lending Library upstairs in ‘the green corridor’ - a permanent installation - since April 2026.

Artist Bio:
Donna Lipowitz is a multi-sensory artist originally from Australia. A former props master and set decorator in film and television, more recently a Documentary filmmaker in London, UK - where she was drawn to stories set in everyday life. In Los Angeles from 2019 she first experimented with scent together with immersive VR projects.
The SCENT LENDING LIBRARY is an evolution of storytelling for Lipowitz, here she explores how scent - unlike image, can bypass conscious bias and tap directly into memory, emotion, and place.
Donna currently resides in West Seattle Washington State, with her husband Dustin who makes computer games.
